Chocolate Orange Flapjacks

If you love chocolate and orange together, you'll love these chewy flapjacks!

I'm not sure where the idea came from to make chocolate orange flapjacks, some might say it's a bit random but I'm totally loving the idea and have zero regrets. And I can't say before these I had ever had a chocolate flavoured flapjack but oh my is it necessary. The chocolate melts in your mouth with every bite and the chewy oats are so more-ish. With that tang of orange, you've got the classic Terry's Chocolate Orange flavour that us Brits are head-over-heels for, and I guarantee these won't last long. I've found a delicious vegan chocolate orange alternative in Doisy and Dam's Dark Chocolate Goji and Orange chocolate bars which worked wonders in this recipe. They've got lots of other flavours and chocolatey treats that I love to treat myself to!

These flapjacks are a good idea for a snack, little dessert or whenever you need that sweet fix which for me is never ending!

Recipe

Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 30-35 minutes
Serves: 16 medium squares

NOTE: every ingredient I use is vegan so make sure you check your ingredients if you're following a Vegan lifestyle.

Ingredients

500g Porridge oats
20g Cocoa powder
Juice from 1 orange
Zest from 2 oranges
200g Vegan butter
100g Light brown sugar
3 tbsp Golden syrup
200g Dark chocolate - I used Doisy and Dam Chocolate Orange

Method

✿Preheat the oven to 160℃ and grease and line a 9x13 inch baking tray with baking paper.
✿In a medium saucepan, melt together butter, brown sugar and golden syrup stirring so it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.
✿Once meted, remove from the heat and stir in the orange zest and orange juice. Mix the oats with the cocoa powder in a separate bowl then stir the oats into the wet mixture until combined.
✿Chop up 100g of the dark chocolate into small pieces and save the rest for on top. Fold in the chocolate pieces to the mixture and then spoon into prepared baking tray.
✿Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown on top. Leave to cool completely in the tray before removing.
✿For the chocolate drizzle, simply melt the chocolate in the microwave or on a bain-marie and then drizzle over the flapjacks.
✿Cut into squares, as big or a s little as you like. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature. Enjoy!
